Join Ameal Moore Nature Center in Riverside for their Second Saturdays event as they go all out for owls!  Owls are some of nature’s most fascinating creatures and in Riverside they’re lucky enough to have several species!

Come into the nature center for a fun owl themed day as we discuss owls and dissect owl pellets!  This event is free and family friendly.  Children’s crafts will be provided.

Hot Summer Nights!

hotsummernightsLooking for some family fun on this Hot Summer Night? Try Starry Nights at Ameal Moore Nature Center in Riverside.

Tonight, August 28, 2015 from 8-10pm join in on the second Fourth Fridays event ‘Hot Summer Nights: Starry Nights in Riverside’ as they discuss the stars! The night will include crafts and activities, information about stars, and a brief evening trek up to a telescope station where we’ll be stargazing with the Riverside Astronomical Society (RAS).

Please be sure to wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes as we will be outside and remember to bring water with you!  This event is free and family friendly!

Bug Safari

Let your children go on a Bug Safari at Fullerton Arboretum on select Wednesday and Saturday’s mornings in June, July & August.

Fullerton Arboretum’s own “Bug Lady,” Cindy Calisher,  wil be in the garden and to show kids how to spot and identify many of the littler critters that inhabit our world. Kids will have opportunities to spot insects and other bugs!

  • When: Wednesdays, June 17 & July 15, 2015 from 9:30 am  – 10:30am and Saturdays, June 13, July 11 & August 8 from 9:30 – 10:30 am
  • Where: Fullerton Aboretum – Nature Center and Grounds, located at: 1900 Associated Rd., Fullerton, CA 92831
  • Cost:  $5 per child
  • Best suited for children ages: 5 and up

Ameal Moore Nature Center presents “Second Saturdays: The Productive Earth- Native Plants & Their Uses” on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

This Second Saturday event at Ameal Moore Nature Center they will we discuss native plants and their uses! Ever stop to think about what else the plants in your yard can do besides look pretty? Could you cook with them? Or maybe cure illnesses? What about dye clothing?

Come and explore these questions as they talk about native species, their importance, and their uses. They will have hands on dyeing and basket weaving at this event! Come by and dye some wool or make a basket! This event is FREE and family friendly!

Wings over Wetlands

Free! WINGS OVER WETLANDS at San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center on Saturday & Sunday, January 24-25, 2015 from 1:00 -4:00 pm

Celebrate the arrival of our feathered friends during the winter bird migration!

San_Elijo_wings_over_wetlandsBird-themed crafts, face painting, and nature activities are planned for families. Conservancy naturalists will have spotting scopes and binoculars for use along the Loop Trail that overlooks San Elijo Lagoon, with excellent birding views. Kids will enjoy learning about bird migrations and how to recognize common birds.

Winter is peak migration time with birds resting and foraging at one of the few salt marshes remaining along the Pacific Flyway. Winter shorebirds and ducks are here to spend the season, many of which come from the High Arctic. The stout Bufflehead may be seen diving in the channels. Dowitchers have a feeding characteristic described like the rhythm of a sewing machine.

Approximately 40% of all North American bird species have been observed in San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve.

Campfire Program at Caspers Park

January’s schedule for the campfire program at Casper’s Wilderness park is set for the following dates: Saturday, January 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31, 2015.

The campfire may include a slide presentation, wilderness safety, games and activities for children, animal adaptations, skins and skulls, a live animal demonstration and a chance to visit the Nature Center. Topics may vary weekly.
