It’s time for the monthly Family Science Sunday at the Muth Interpretive Center at the Upper Newport Bay Nature Center. Once a month, families enjoy FREE activities with a different educational theme to explore inside the Muth Interpretive Center classroom.

Muth Interpretive Center

All the activities are self guided and may include hands on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more. The classroom has plenty for your children to explore: live animals, puzzles, games, puppets and the most lovely tree house that the kids adore.

Be sure to ask the front desk about the 12 minute movie in the theater. All ages are welcome, and no registration is required.

Family Science Sunday at Muth Interpretive Center offers Free activities in their classroom once a month.

Each month offers different educational theme to explore. This months theme is Astronomy.

The activities are self-guided and may include hands on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more. Join Preserve Staff for a short hike at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. Recommended for ages 3-12.

Upper Newport Bay Preserve has a new Summer program for school age kids! Join the preserve staff for an activity based hike and then cool off in the Muth Interpretive Center classroom for a craft.

The program is designed for parent and child participation. Learn about the different habitats of Upper Newport Bay

  • When: Thursday, June 11, 18 & 25, 2015 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am

  • Where: Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve, Muth Interpretive Center

  • Cost: $5.00 per child

Earth Day at Bay

Come to the Peter & Mary Muth Interpretive Center for Earth Day at the Bay. Newport Bay Conservancy, in partnership with OC Parks, present the 25th Annual Earth Day at the Bay.

Earth Day is a time when we can all reflect on the importance of our natural surroundings and how we can preserve and protect them. This Earth Day event features many exhibits and booths designed to help us connect with the natural world and help preserve it for future generations. Live music, children’s arts and crafts, scavenger hunt, live presentations, environmental movie shorts, and so much more.

  • When: Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Where: Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center, 2301 University Dr. Newport Beach,CA
  • Cost: Free parking, free admission

Get your little ones up and exploring on Friday, November 28, 2014 with “Wild Tales” at the Upper Newport Bay Nature Center.

Visit with Preserve and YMCA staff for story-telling fun!  After a story, learn more about the natural history of the Bay through crafts, hands-on activities and nature walks. Come prepared for exciting experiences!  For ages 2-8.

Family Science Sunday – Nature’s Harvest will take place this Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 10:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve.

Learn all about seeds, nuts, acorns and the animals that love them with self guided activities that may include hands on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more.

Preserve staff will provide storytime at 11am and 2pm.

The Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center is located at 2301 University Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660. It is at the corner of University and Irvine Avenue

 Recommended for ages 3-12.

Creepy Crawlies and Night Creatures

Tomorrow, October 26th  from 10:00 am.m – 4:00 p.m., come and explore the world of nocturnal animals and 8 legged insects at the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve .

FREE activities in the Muth Interpretive Center classroom once a month, each with a different educational theme to explore.  The activities are self-guided and may include hands on exhibits, outside hikes, crafts and more.  Then join Preserve staff for storytime at 11am and 2pm.  Recommended for ages 3-12.

Tideland Tykes & Wild Tales at the Peter & Mary Muth Interpretive Center

With your school aged kids going back to school soon, this is a perfect event for the little’s in your life (although my older girl still enjoys it).

The Upper Newport Bay Nature Center hosts “Tideland Tykes” and “Wild Tales” on most Thursday & Friday’s at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive center. Preserve Staff presents a fun filled parent and child event.

The event usually includes exploration of the bay, wildlife and environmental issues with story telling, arts & crafts or a hands on activity and an outdoor walk.

After the event you can let your little one’s explore in the kids room to play with puzzles, read books, play with puppets and observe the Nature Center pets.

  • Recommended for ages 2-8

  • Tideland Tykes: Ongoing program most Thursdays

  • Wild Takes: Ongoing program most Fridays

  • 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

  • cost is $5.00 per child

  • Parking is free
