Navy Days 2015

Navy Days is coming! Get an up-close-and-personal look at the lives of our nation’s sailors aboard one of three active U.S. Navy vessels visiting the Port of Los Angeles.


On August 7, 8, 9, 2015 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm, come for a FREE public ship tour and meet the crew during their week in port in celebration of Navy Days LA.

Tours begin every half hour, ship names will be announced closer to event date. Past visiting ships have included USS Wayne E. Meyer, USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Gary, USS Spruance, and USS Anchorage.

  • Cost: Event is FREE, parking is $2.00 per hour, the first hour is free. Parking is located at Harbor Blvd. & 1st Street or Harbor Blvd. and Swinford St. in San Pedro. Auxiliary parking lots, with shuttle service, may be available should the Harbor/Swinford lot fill to capacity.

Families are invited to Coast Keepers Garden to welcome in the new season and explore the Garden in search of summer plants and insects.

Create a summer themed craft with your little ones to take home.

A Day at the Adobe


Spend a Day at the Ramon Peralta Adobe Historic Site. Find out what life was like during the Rancho period when the Peralta Adobe was built in the 1870s through fun-filled activities and crafts.

The Ramon Peralta Adobe is located on land that once was part of the Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. While the Peralta Adobe was not the oldest adobe built in the Santa Ana Canyon, it is the only one still standing in the canyon today.

There will be entertainment for the whole family, including brick making, face painting, a photo booth with background images from the adobe’s past, Rancho period music from the Slackjaw Brothers, crafts and more! Docents will be on hand at this free event to guide you through the adobe and explain what daily life was like in the Santa Ana canyon in the late 19th century.

D.A.R.E. Movie Night

Join this D.A.R.E. sponsored event and watch Paddington on the outdoor movie screen in Heritage Park tonight, June 13, 2015.

The Irvine Police Department and OCFA will bring lots of cool vehicles to check out. This family event starts at 6 p.m. and includes bounce houses, a snack bar and field games provided by the Mobile Recreation Program. The movie begins at dusk. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. All ages welcome.

Join in the fun at the first annual BLOOM springtime festival of art, music and food within the walkable SoBECA District stretching from Bristol St. to Randolph to Baker in an artsy geographic triangle.

Endangered Species Day

CabrillologoCelebrate Endangered Species Day at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium! Come and learn about marine animals that have been designated by the United States as endangered and how they are fairing today.

Stop by the Aquatic Nursery where you can see live, endangered white abalone that are part of a special program to increase their numbers in the ocean. Kids can join in a scavenger hunt, listen to a special story time in the library, take a guided beach walk and more!

Fishing Derby

Join OC Parks – Carbon Canyon Regional Park for their Inaugural Fishing Derby of the newly restored 4 acre lake. OC Parks’ staff, Sport Chalet and local fishing organization Team 57 will be present.

Parents bring your children ages 15 and under for an exclusive opportunity to fish between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (Everyone else after 12 p.m.) Don’t forget your fishing pole! There will be Fishing experts on site, Fish related vendors, a chance to win prizes and FREE hot dog lunch following the derby while supplies last

Ocean Fest

Join State of Califonria Park staff and the Amigos de Bolsa Chica in celebrating Earth Day Ocean Fest on Saturday, April 25 from 10 am – 2 pm.

They will have educational booths & activities, beach clean-up, native plant restoration, water quality testing, crafts and more!

Family Festival at the Getty Center

The Getty Center is hosting a Family Festival celebrating Play on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.. Admission is FREE and no reservations are required.

The Getty Center is turning into a gigantic playground for this daylong festival celebrating the simple act of play in all of its forms. From hula hoops to dance workshops, and chess masters to checkers, there’s something for everyone in this fun-filled day. Storytelling and music mix with circus acts, board games, hopscotch, fun-house mirrors, pick-up sticks and the Getty’s first ping-pong tournament. Get your game face on!
