Surprise her with a hike at Aliso & Wood Canyons Park. On this family friendly hike, you’ll play nature themed games while learning about how mothers in the wild care for their babies.

Pack a lunch or a snack (don’t forget the card) and enjoy the newly renovated staging area afterwards.

California Native Plants & Wildflowers Hike at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park
Learn about the California Native Plants and wildflowers with a Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalist on this enjoyable 2.5 mile hike (45-ft elevation gain) over moderately uneven terrain.

  • Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, James Dilley Preserve (405 South to 133 south to stoplight at 73 turn-off; make a U-turn, go 1 block. Dilley is on the right).
  • Parking: $3/vehicle.

Morning Fitness Hike at Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve
Take a mildly strenuous 2.5-mile hike along the Back Bay with preserve staff.  Hike will begin in front of the Muth Center.  The hike is on both paved and dirt paths with mostly flat surfaces.This hike explores the upland areas of the bay – with opportunities to see the birds, mammals and reptiles that make this habitat their home.

Ranger Led Nature Hike at Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park
Join our Park Rangers Sunday mornings for an easy 1-mile hike on the Nature Trail. The trail takes visitors through grassland, oak woodland, riparian and sandy cactus scrub communities. Meet at Old Corral Day Use area. Rain will cancel hike. 

  • Fee: Free
  • Parking: $5 per vehicle
  • Wear comfortable clothing, hiking shoes.
  • Sunscreen, water and insect repellent are recommended.

Mother’s Day in Nature at Aliso & Wood Canyons Park

For this weekends edition of “Weekend Hikes” the pick of the week is the “Fitness Challenge for All at Aliso & Wood Canyons Park”. Any mention of a hike with an ocean view is a winner in my eyes. This hike is considered a challenging hike as it is a 5-mile hike with a 900-ft. elevation gain.

The hikes are always FREE, just cover the parking fee – or buy a OC Parks parking pass and enjoy our gorgeous parks for the entire year.

It’s a Dilley of a Hike at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park
Raise your spirits as well as your heart rate on this great, 5.5-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain (900-ft. elevation gain) with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers.

Cardio on a treadmill or cardio with an ocean view? Push your personal workout goals and never get left behind as we cater to a range of fitness levels. It’s a great chance to see wildlife and learn all about Aliso and Wood Canyons from park staff. This is a 5-mile (900-ft. elevation gain).

  • Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, Canyon View Staging Area (from southbound Aliso Creek Road, turn right on Glenwood [turns into Pacific Park] and right on Canyon Vistas. Meet at the entrance to Canyon View Park).

Redwood Hike at Carbon Canyon Regional Park
Join OC Parks’ trained staff on the first Saturday of the month for an easy 1.1-mile interpretive hike to the park’s Coastal Redwood grove. You will use your 5 senses to engage with nature as you stroll to the Redwoods. You will also have an opportunity to learn about our native plants along the trail. The hike begins at 9:30 a.m. from the park’s Nature Center. Don’t forget to visit our Nature Center when you are there, too!Participants should remember water, sunscreen, hat and hiking shoes.

Join us on a wonderful morning walk to Orange County’s only natural lake while learning about our native California plant life. This easy 2-mile leisurely hike will be led by Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists.
