When your out and about it’s hard to find healthy meals – especially for kids. The choices always come down to a very processed chicken nugget or a burger. I forget that Chipotle offers healthy, quick, cost effective meals for the entire family.

Since I’m always looking for good deals – this FREEBIE from Chipolte will help remind me to visit Chipotle when we’re on the go (and maybe some Sunday’s when I just don’t want to cook).

Every year, Ruby’s Diner celebrates their founder, Ruby Cavanaugh’s birthday with a special burger & Fries deal – Today, Wednesday, July 27th, is Ruby’s Birthday and time to celebrate!

From 11:30 am to closing they are offering Cheeseburgers and fries for just $2.99! Not only can you get a great meal but you can also give back to your community, $1 from each purchase will go to support the Ruby Dooby Foundation  which benefits children’s charities.

The Ruby Dooby Foundation was created as a way of honoring Ruby’s dedication to children. Ruby Cavanaugh passed in December, this wonderful foundation will live on and help to support the new Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, dedicated to small babies in need of complex surgery or other advanced care. The Ruby Dooby Foundation also supports research efforts to combat Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome (CCHS), a rare but tragic disease that is in need of more funding for better treatments.

RubyscalamariThe original Ruby’s Diner opened in 1982 on Balboa Pier, There are now 35 Ruby’s with more opening soon. My family and I know really enjoy going to Ruby’s diner and love their shakes. In addition to their great burgers and shakes – I recommend their veggie burgers, Ahi Tuna Burgers and Fried Calamari, just to name a few. We can always count on Ruby’s a for a good meal (and dessert) in a family friendly environment.

National Hot Dog Day

So, tomorrow 7/14/16 is National Hot Dog Day. I know…contain yourself. Although I’m not really a fan of hot dogs, this FREE hot dog giveaway caught my attention because they serve Turkey AND Veggie dogs, who knew!

Hot Dog On A Stick will celebrate this glorious day by giving away 1 FREE Turkey Dog or 1 FREE Veggie dog per person. Great for a quick-lunch and I’m curious about the Veggie Dog. The last time I tried Veggie dogs was about 15 years ago and it was so bad, my dog didn’t even want it (true story) BUT I hear there have been major changes to veggie dogs since then. I’m willing to give it a shot.

Every Kid in a Park

My family and I just got back from our “Kick-off” to Summer trip by visiting a couple of our National Parks – compliments of our 4th grader. We used my daughter’s Every Kid in a Park pass to visit Sequoia National Park, Kings Canyon National Park and Yosemite National Park.

Every Kid in a Park sample pass

I was more than excited last year when President Obama introduced the “Every Kid in a Park” program that provides every fourth grader and their families free admission to our national parks and recreational sites for a full year! I’ve talked about this program before but it’s such a wonderful program I have to remind everyone to take part in this program.

If your child will be entering the fifth grade in the fall, you still have time to visit our National parks for FREE! The “Every Kid in a Park” program began in the fall and runs through August 31st. For all of you with children heading into the 4th grade in the fall, their pass will be valid on September 1st.
My Forth Grader basking in the sun and the mist of Yosemite Falls.

We were in Yosemite this weekend while President Obama and his family were visiting the park. I thought is was awesome that he was there talking about the program that we were there taking advantage of. Although we didn’t stand in the meadow and wait to see the president, we did see the helicopters and experienced the excitement and security measures of having the President in the park at the same time.

According to the White House 80% of American families live around cities where children spend more than 53 hours every week glued to their electronic devices. This initiative is a push to get kids and their families outdoors and active and hopefully inspire a love for nature.

If you’re the parent of a child who just finished up their 4th grade year – get out there and experience our National Parks this summer for FREE. I’ll be writing a post soon about our experience at the parks, where we stayed and any tips that might be helpful for you and your family.  In the meantime, #Findyourpark here. I’m looking at our calendar to schedule some more time at our National Parks this summer!

Swap your Java

March is National Nutrition Month and Jamba Juice wants to help us Swap our Java for Jamba.

To entice us to do so they are offering a $2 off coupon good on any Smoothie, Juice Energy Bowl or Oatmeal.

Jamba Juice wants to make this easy for us to redeem our coupon; we don’t even have to have the coupon with us. All we have to do is snap a picture on our phones or show them a screen shot and show them the photo in the store.  The coupon is good for a one time use through March 13, 2016. This is a great way to try out a juice or energy bowl you haven’t had the chance to try yet while making a small change towards better nutrition.
