I believe that mother earth provides us with everything we need to heal. Our earth is full of natural medicine, we just need to be opening and willing to try it. As a child, my mother had a tea for everything! I wish I had paid a little more attention and wrote her remedies down.
Every once in a while something I’m reading or learning about in one my classes brings a memory of one of my mother’s many natural cures. Finding events such as this one brings a smile to my face and no doubt makes her happy.

I am now a Certified “Yoga for All” Teacher!!! I don’t know if you can tell but I’m more than just a little bit excited about this. As a Yoga teacher I want to assure that any’body” that comes in for a yoga class feels comfortable regardless of the body they’re in.
It was extremely important for to find a training from people who were well respected within the Yoga community and have specific knowledge in the practice as it applies to people who didn’t fit the Yoga “mold”. Although I had to wait for the training to become available in the Fall, You can’t get much better than Dianne Bondy and Amber Karnes!!! Their training is only offered twice a year and it was completely worth the wait!
Dianne Bondy is an author, motivator, educator, yoga teacher, and creator of Yogasteya.com. Yogasteya is an online yoga site dedicated to celebrating students of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities. Our motto is “No Yogi Left Behind.”
Dianne has had over 1000 hours yoga training in different modalities such as yoga therapeutics, restorative, and Anusara Yoga. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at 500 hour level and is the Director of Eastside Yoga School. You can read her column The Abundant Yogini at DoYouYoga.com.
Amber Karnes is a ruckus maker, RYT-200 yoga asana teacher, and a lifelong student of her body. In Amber’s classes and workshops, students of all shapes and sizes will find tips, tricks, and modifications to make yoga asana work for their unique body, instead of being squished into poses for the sake of form over function. She emphasizes safe alignment and mindful transitions, and guides each student to honor the body they bring to the mat today, while being empowered to learn about the body’s intelligence and power. She received her certification from Anna Pittman in 2011 and is grateful to her many wonderful teachers.
Amber is a big fan of “yoga in non-yoga places” and often teaches free, accessible classes in her community. She serves on the Yoga and Body Image Coalition Leadership Team and Women’s Power Space Advisory Council. Amber seeks to further the message of inclusivity, consent, agency, body positivity, and accessibility for all on and off the mat. She blogs at bodypositiveyoga.com.
I feel so much more confident in my ability to teach knowing I have so many options to offer my students. I want my students to feel comfortable no matter where they are in their practice. In addition, I am now part of a wonderful community that truly cares about making Yoga accessible to everyone.
This training was a labor of love for me. I truly care about offering Yoga for All Shapes, SIzes and Abilities and am over the top about this certification!
Every year, one of our favorite things to do is go to the Festival of Light at the Mission Inn in Riverside. This year we got a sneak preview (just by chance) of the gorgeous Mission Inn in all it’s glory.
This year marks the 25th year of the Festival of Lights. The beautiful Mission Inn is decorated with 200 animated figures including angels, elves and Dickens carolers, freshly fallen snow, a gorgeous Christmas Tree and tons of lights!
Don’t miss appearances by Santa Claus and our the chance to stand under the world’s largest man-made mistletoe.
The theme for 2017 is “Sweet 25”. The fun and exciting candy-theme celebration will begin with their very special “Lights On ” ceremony on Friday, November 24th, at 4:30pm.
The theme is carried throughout the exterior of the hotel and include the new Candy Stroll, Sweet Dreams suite, Kelly’s Spa specials, weekly delectable specials featured in our award-winning restaurants, and delicious candy-themed Casey’s Cupcakes.
The Festival of Lights runs from Friday, November 24, 2017 through Saturday, January 6, 2018.
Peter’s Canyon Regional Park has offered me and my family fun hikes, heart to heart talks with friends while climbing trying to breathe as we tackle Red Hill and much needed alone time hearing the dirt and rocks under my shoes. I have been so thankful to have this gem so close to home.
Seeing the Canyon Fire 2 burn through our little oasis left me and many others feeling a loss. Our little gem needs our help and we give our park the care and time to recover after the Canyon Fire 2 burned so much of it.
Volunteers are needed to help park rangers plant native habitat around the edges of the parking lot. The first scheduled volunteer event following the fire will be Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 7:30 am – 10:30 am. Anyone 12 and over is eligible to lend a hand.
Registration is limited to 50 participants. This would be a great way of giving back and perfect for older boy scout and girl scout troops to help their community.
