The American Farm Bureau Federation’s 29th annual informal price survey of classic items found on the Thanksgiving Day dinner table indicates the average cost of this year’s feast for 10 is $49.41, a 37-cent increase from last year’s average of $49.04.

While that may seem like a reasonable amount to spend for some, others will have to foresake the traditional Thanksgiving feast. A new study by Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and Feeding America shows that more than 277,000 people in Orange County alone need the help of Second Harvest. Many families in own community are made to choose between paying for food and other essentials.

There is something you can do about it today! KTLA 5 News along with Stater Bros. Markets, Whole Foods, and the Salvation Army — as well as Second Harvest, the LA Regional Food Bank, and Feeding America Riverside/San Bernardino — have joined forces to collect food donations as part of the 2014 Season of Sharing that is taking place today at several locations.

They invite you to donate non-perishable food items that will benefit local food banks. The food collected will help all through the holiday season.

KTLA 5 will be live at Stater Bros. and Whole Foods locations on Tuesday, Nov. 25, collecting food donations to ensure every family has a warm holiday season to remember this year.

The following are the items needed most by local food banks:

Non-perishable canned goods or dry food:

  • Canned fruits & vegetables
  • Canned tuna
  • Canned chicken
  • Pasta
  • Hot and cold cereal

Personal care items:
